1 John 2:15-17

• Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
• 1 2:15-17 KJV
Back in my days things were different. A common saying among the generations before us, and our generation to the one behind us.

Many of us may feel that the generation before us was a simpler time but in actuality they were faced with many of the same trials that we face on a daily basis, maybe just not on the same scale but relative to the time.

Our society has become so over stimulated and desensitized to what we watch, hear and see. things that may have been off limits, taboo or in poor taste are now common place and are socially acceptable in many circles.

The world has much to offer, something for everyone some good some bad and I believe that as the saying goes "we are the company we keep" this statement in itself can give you something to think about on many levels, not just the people we associate with but as I stated earlier what we watch, hear and see, are my friends a positive influence on my life? Are the shows I watch positive or is their content suggestive and negative? Everything we allow into our inner circle can affect us in some way shape or form whether we think it does or not.

Some things are avoidable some aren't, you don't have to go into a bar but most of us have to go to work where there can be any number of infractions that may be hard for us to deal with 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us: there hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.(KJV)

So know that despite the temptations to fit in with people or peer pressure at work or with friends your God is faithful so stay strong and be of good courage, even Paul one of the greatest preachers in the bible said in Romans 7:19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. So we know there will be trials and temptations throughout our lives and how we choose to deal with them can define us as Christians, so we have to be careful. In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus says this: 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

• So be mindful of the things around you, earlier in Matthew 6:19-21 Jesus tells us 19: Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:20: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. So don't be seduced by the lure of monetary wealth to accumulate things that ultimately only provide temporary satisfaction all too many times we feel that if we had more money it will solve all our problems, God is the only one that can do that and if we allow the distractions of this world to pull us away from a relationship with God it becomes easier to believe he doesn't exist and that there are no consequences to the things that we do, so if I want to drink or watch bad TV I'm not hurting anyone I still go to church on Sundays I'm covered but do we really want to live that dual persona? Is that really Christ-like? How do we win others to the Lord if we’re not practicing what we preach? We have to lead by example despite the distractions going on in this world, we have to stay strong in our faith and keep moving forward till the day Christ returns. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

• Titus 2:11-12 KJV Personally I don't want to live in a world without God and if the world is right and there is no God then I've wasted my life serving him, but if I'm right then they've wasted their eternity and that's not a chance im willing to take.
